Signing the Declaration of Cooperation for the “Nikola Tesla Network - Mreža Nikola Tesla” Project
On July 9, 2019, as part of a three-day-long celebration of Nikola Tesla's 163rd birthday in his hometown Smiljan, the project's Declaration of Cooperation was signed. This small town in Lika will also be the starting point of the Route, and will stretch throughout countries where Tesla lived, was educated and worked.
All Declaration signatories have previously engaged in this layered Cultural Route project that would start from little Smiljan in Lika and pass through all countries where Tesla spent part of his life, promoting destinations, cross-border cooperation, research, education, cultural cooperation, tourism offers and many other segments.
"The signing of the Declaration will be followed by the establishment of the Nikola Tesla Network Association, which will collect all the necessary documentation for the certification of the Route at the European Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. The first Route starting from Croatia is dedicated to a scientist who deserves all of our attention considering the importance he has in the world. The Route will generate an increase tourist traffic in destinations in Croatia and abroad, " said Frano Matusic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and President of the Nikola Tesla Network Working Group - Nikola Tesla Network.
The project would be, if approved by the Council of Europe, certified by the Council of Europe Cultural Route 2020 by May next year at the earliest. This will also mark the start for many local and international businessmen, cultural staff, scientists and many others, who will be inspired by Route for the creation of new tourist itineraries, as well as a new research and new cultural cross-border projects.
